HOPE
During times of global chaos, hope seems impossible. Working in my studio always helps me to refocus my brain and energy when I feel inundated by terrible events. Late last year I knew I needed to work with the belief that we can still have hope even under gruesome circumstances.
In my studio, I unrolled some unstretched canvas a friend had given me and tore them into three sections. Not really knowing what I was going to paint while looking at my sketch book from my last trip to Barcelona for inspiration. I found the dark palette I love and the combination of shapes that I consider to represent Balance: circle, square, spiral, triangle and equidistant cross.*
Beginning with black ink and then layering with gouache and acrylics and metallic pens, I continued to think about the word Hope. The shapes found their places, the colors felt lush, the tiny dots that represented a feeling of Hope began to emerge behind and through the black ink and acrylic grids and lines. I could feel a sense of Hope also emerging in myself through these paintings.
